Client communication is key to business engagements. In particular, organizations embarking on expansion must consider these strategies and implement them at regular intervals for an expected outcome.
There are positive and negative communication patterns. In the business world, it is extremely rare to find neutral communications. There are many factors which influence the communication process.
First and foremost is the communication accessibility. If a company intends to look for distributors for their products, they will need to have a basic strategy to implement their growth. It requires to look at the market segment to target their products. It is no point wishing to place products in China when there is no expertise to communicate in Chinese. It can be as simple as that.
Second, the company's willingness to facilitate communication development. It can be draining to make an international call everytime for evey need. With smart technology, telecommunications have become much more affordable as compared to yesteryears. Unless, the country's regulations are against this and so it will require an understanding of the telecommunications within the country. You will be amazed at the investments such research efforts would bring in.
Next, while English has become the common lingua franca of the business world, it does not always mean that we know what everyone means by what they say. Improving communications also mean that you will need to take the time to know your client's cultures, beliefs, expectations and personalities. It can be difficult for those with a superiority complex but it can be managed through common concerns. It will definitely take time and well, more importantly make the world a better place to live in with harmony!
Last, it may not be a good idea to expose your weaknesses or discuss your challenges at the initial stage of client communication. There will be a need to develop a realistic amount of trust and sincerity before you negotiate on your goals and agreement. I support conferences and conventions due to the wide array of topics to deliberate upon and discuss openly. However, it is also likely to mask the real issues your company is facing in order to engage the client. It will be great to explore your client's strengths and lead them to understand your position. The role you play may not be as big as the understanding you give to the client. An invaluable strategy is to work along with your client and set the pace as you move.
