Has anyone walked into your office yet? Can you tell if they were marvelled or disgusted by the way you organized your work materials? Or did you just say that work materials have nothing to do with your actual work? Oh dear! You will need help to benefit from the following tips.
Let's first do a thorough check on the amount of waste paper you have around your office or work area. These are documents you do not need to have access to everyday. Well most offices have them archived in arch files but these days, honey...the way to do it is to e-file them. You may need some reliable contacts to get them done well.
Only sometimes we grab breakfast or lunch and devour them on our work spaces. It doesn't look right especially to our bosses. In fact, I have been told that it is unprofessional. At least the cleaners around do not have to work harder to maintain your work space. So some of us decide to go hungry and postpone our meals. Not a good idea too. You can negotiate for a flexible meal hour or take proper meals at the times allocated. Just dont starve okay? Fasting might be a better idea.
It is healthy for you to give yourself regular legitimate breaks such as toilet time, prayer and sight seeing while you are engaged with your work. Distractions are useful especially when you need the assurance to go further. It makes you realize your ultimate and not just momentary need to achieve. It will do you much good if you can use that time wisely to consult your colleagues instead of gawking on DIY videos.
Finally, let go of work totally when you stop operating. I totally agree with those who simply cannot get off with your smart phones...we are damned! But the letting go should be natural enough such that it leads to a complete feeling when you come back to work again. If you find yourself procratinating, tell you what, its time you speak with your superiors on your roles and contributions. That way nobody loses and everyone remains sane for a good while.
I just hope these are enough points for sharing. Being a home-based personnel would necessarily impose greater productivity expectations and more self-imposed regulations. Let us hear about your experiences good and bad.
